Judge Dan Sulman is a husband, father, and lifelong Philadelphian who has dedicated his professional career in service to the families of Philadelphia.  A proud graduate of Philadelphia public schools, Judge Sulman attended Temple University on an academic scholarship and earned his law degree at the Temple University Beasley Law School.  Judge Sulman is a widely-respected and experienced Court of Common Pleas Judge, having served on the bench in the Family Division for nearly three years.  Judge Sulman has a progressive vision and is focused on ensuring justice and equity for all who enter his courtroom, especially for parents and children involved in sensitive family court matters.  

Judge Sulman, his wife and their two children are 10-year residents of the Mount Airy section of Philadelphia.

As a husband and father of two children, Judge Dan Sulman intimately understands many of the challenges confronting the families who enter the courthouse in search of justice in difficult times.  Judge Sulman has dedicated nearly two decades in public service to Philadelphia’s most vulnerable populations, including undocumented residents, children and victims of domestic violence.  Judge Sulman is a voice for progressive and modern courts who strongly believes that a judge must not only render impartial justice, but must do so with compassion and empathy.  


With 19 years of public service, including more than 13 years as a child custody and support hearing officer, and nearly three years as a Common Pleas Court Judge, Dan Sulman is far and away the most experienced candidate for judge in the upcoming 2021 Philadelphia Democratic Primary Election.  In addition to his judicial experience, Judge Sulman also brings more than two decades of expertise in Pennsylvania family law, a subject on which he has frequently lectured attorneys and fellow judges.  Judge Sulman is recognized for his work ethic and efficiency, especially with respect to his creation and implementation of internal court procedures which eliminated excessive court listings and promoted the prompt resolution of child custody relocation cases.
